I’ll do this & I’ll do that

but I won’t be burning canyons for you.

However, the plan is to be blogging more. WordPress 3.0 allows for networked blogs so I’ve pulled them all together and have the best of intentions to keep the blogs up and running. After all, I am forever preaching the power of blogs and yet here I am, spotty in my own updates.

I was really struck by how my posts have changed over the last ten years. I’ve had a website since 1994 and been blogging since 1999. I was in such a different place in my life back then. I only have archives since 2000, shortly after I met my husband. I was so free in a way that I don’t feel now. Is it wisdom? Age? I understand more now about how my words can affect everything about me--is that all it is? Maybe. But I think in general, I don’t let my hair down quite as much as I might have back then. Or if I do, I’m less likely to blog about it.

Facebook also wasn’t in the picture. I find that I spend more time connecting with friends and family on Facebook now whereas I used to use my blog to do so. Facebook is, for me, a very personal network, so if you are thinking of looking me up and adding me, know that you’ll probably have an ignore on the invite. I like to actually KNOW the people in my Facebook network.

At any rate, I have been:

  • Hot. Boston has been steamy for the last week. It’s thundering right now. We’re planning on hitting up the nearby diner for dinner--pancakes and beer. Seriously.
  • Traveling. Las Vegas in May, NYC last week. Aside from a trip to the in-laws in the Berkshires soon I’ll be staying put for awhile.
  • I’ve been earnestly working to suck down as much Italian as I can. I use Byki for my flash card system (the whole Transparent Language program is excellent for any language you may want to learn) and I’ve been working with a tutor, both privately and in a small group, two days a week.
  • This is because we’re going to hit up Rome again this fall for our 10th anniversary! AND because I really desperately want to learn Italian anyway. We have crazy hopes of living there some day.
  • The drink of choice these days is the Aperol Spritz-- 2 parts Aperol, 1 part prosecco, 1 part soda water and a slice of orange. We go through a lot of Aperol in our house, especially as the days become hotter.
  • We’re also so smitten with Italy that we’re attempting to make cherry ratafia for the fall--possibly for xmas presents. There are a million recipes for it and I spent some time translating many of them to figure out some sort of possibility for our blend. Basically I mashed a bunch of recipes together. Our batch contains vodka, cherries, red wine, coriander, cinnamon, vanilla and cloves. It will sit in the sun for 8 weeks then in the dark for another 2-3 months.  But we’re pretty sure it’s not going to be like the Ratafia DiMeo that we had (and yes we bought a bottle!) at Ferrara in Trastevere. If we could get it in the States we would just buy it instead of attempting to make it. But ahh we love a challenge

More to come soon!
